We're currently recommending the following two hosting companies:
NewsCloud is hosted at JohnCompanies. Their Linux VPS starts at $47 per month. 10% discount on VPS if you say NewsCloud referred you. Deeper discount available for student/nonprofit. 5% discount on dedicated servers.
They are a high end hosting company. They are extremely reliable. They are very responsive over email support.
In the past our only complaints are that they have a slow sales response on email, no phone support options - even in emergencies and they were slow to diagnose and a fix a hardware problem on our dedicated server. We've only seen one catastrophic failure there related to nearly a full day outage (over two years).
We've recently discovered JVDS and have been impressed with their affordability, positive attitude, responsiveness and server performance. The StandardLinux1 VPS is $20 per month (3 Months = 5% discount, 6 Months = 7.5%, 12 Months = 10% discount).
